A beautiful market town with a particularly ancient history, Chester-Le-Street is nestled up against the river Weir and is a civil parish in County Durham. Famous for its markets held several times a week, the town dates its proud and storied history back directly to an ancient Roman fort named Concangis. Chester-Le-Street boasts a significant religious heritage, being the place where the body of St Cuthbert, a famous Anglo-Saxon saint, remained for over 100 years.
Those new to Chester or visiting on holiday have a plethora of exciting and stunning attractions to see. Ranging from religious locations such as the classically beautiful Church of St Mary and St Cuthbert to the wild and wonderful Lambton Park, there is a selection to suit every interest. The riverside location of Chester lends itself to the outdoors, with the Riverside Park and Cricket Ground packed during summer as families, locals and tourists enjoy the sun and the many events on offer.
