Points of Interest: Mansfield
Mansfield is a fascinating place that has a past designated as a ‘market town’; a place in medieval times that had the right to host large markets, something that distinguished it from a city or a village. In modern days, Mansfield is home to a modest population of approximately 100,000 and is situated Nottinghamshire.
The history of the place is certainly unique; the 14th and 15th centuries saw Mansfield as primarily being a special retreat for royals and their associated dignitaries – a modest use of space, to be sure! As the area progressed through the years, it came to be that the large and unique market square in the town (harking back to its market town status) was modernised and used as a means of hosting a large museum in addition to the Palace Theatre and a range of bars, nightclubs and eateries.
There’s one extra special piece of history that Mansfield is proud to lay claim to: Sherwood forest. The Sherwood Pines location is a renowned tourist attraction and a stunning place for a family day trip amidst the tall trees. Those interested in the history of the famed vigilante himself are well supported by a range of tour guides and the local Robin Hood pub, as well as the opportunity to rent out a range of log cabins in the forest. The famous tree used by the distant hero is also a key attraction in the area, with many school trips dedicated to visiting the spot.
While we always love to highlight the outdoor attractions, it’s undeniable that Mansfield stands above the rest in this regard. Horseback tours, canoeing trips and more are wrapped up neatly by a town centre flush with a selection of bars, shopping centres and more. Our new Mansfield branch team is happy to be here!
