Points of Interest: Darlington

Boasting a large population of over 92,000 people, Darlington is a bustling market town located in County Durham, North East England.

As is the case with many towns and cities across the country, Darlington has a fascinating history behind its rise to prominence within its County. While the city began its life as an Anglo-Saxon settlement, it grew to prominence much later in history – largely due to the industrial revolution.

As far back as the Georgian and Victorian eras, local Quaker families contributed to local growth by providing much of the money and guidance required to create the Stockton and Darlington Railway. This as a major development for the city; it was the world’s very first permanent steam-powered railway for passengers.

Today, it’s a wonderful, diverse place to visit. Families are well catered to with the stunning range of attractions available, from the Darlington Hippodrome through to Raby Castle and the Walworth Castle Birds of Prey exhibitions and displays.

Whether your days are oriented around the Broken Scar Picnic Area or the Market Hall proper, you’re sure to find good times and great people in Darlington. We are proud to become part of the area with our Everyday Loans branch!
