Points of Interest: Milton Keynes

Besides having a claim to fame of an inordinate number of roundabouts and a unique grid city layout, Milton Keynes sits fondly within Buckinghamshire as a wonderful place to visit and live in. The town has a surprisingly short history for the United Kingdom, having been formally designated a town in 1967 as part of an effort to stimulate the growth of locations surrounding London – that’s right, congestion was a problem for the capital even then!

Nowadays, Milton Keynes is home to over 240,000 faithful residents who love to live in the area for its personality and wonderful landscapes. Its unique design is owed to the efforts of urban theorist Melvin Webber, leading to kilometre sized grid squares that lead to an urban structure found nowhere else across the country to this day.

The town has a rich history. It played a critical role in the Second World War, with the famous Bletchley Park being the nerve centre of spying activity and the very place where the Enigma code was cracked.

Residents of the town are well aware of the pleasant distractions and retail therapy opportunities available. In addition to the stately days spent taking in the history of Bletchley Park, attractions such as the Stables theatre and the wonderful Gulliver’s Land theme park (boasting over 70 rides and shows) keep guests coming and locals happy. For those looking for a day trip closer to nature, the Emberton Country Park is home to an enviable range of nature walks in addition to a thriving boating community.

A distinct and unique example of a British town with a proud heritage and much to do when visiting. A great place for our newest Everyday Loans team to become part of.
